What’s all the fuss surrounding Gmail’s integrated workspace?
Last month, we covered Google’s announcement about the major update coming to Gmail for G Suite where users will be able to utilise several G Suite apps (Chats, Rooms and Meet) turning the email client into the best ‘home for work’ tool.
This month, the company announced its integrated workspace finally started rolling out to all G Suite customers on Android and the web. On mobile, there will be four new tabs in the bottom bar allowing users to access the integrated apps; and, on the web, the sections will appear in the sidebar on the left.
Additionally, Google is also introducing several new tools aimed at helping users stay organised and focused –
a) ability to assign group tasks;
b) notifications on task updates in Rooms;
c) pinning important Rooms so users can easily find and access them;
d) changing your availability status – for example, “Do Not Disturb”;
e) status notices in Chat – for example, “Out Of Office”;
f) ability to see files shared in a room;
g) viewing integrated search results and toggle between Email and Chat results on the web; and
h) viewing upcoming meetings as well as starting a new meeting under Meet on the web.
With this integrated workspace, Google aims to help users stay focused, more productive and collaborate more efficiently – and all within the Gmail window.
