How to resolve Google Search Console indexing issues?

“Good SEO work only gets better over time. It’s only search engine tricks that need to keep changing when the ranking algorithms change.” – Jill Whalen

In 2020, Google started its pilot program for site owners reporting urgent bugs, security issues and other problems related to Google Search. Since its launch, the program has been working so perfectly that Google decided to expand it by adding a report indexing issues option.

Currently, the new feature is rolling out only in the US. However, after reassessing its usefulness, signed-in Google Search Console users will be able to see the following message –

Google Search Console Reporting Indexing Issues |

According to Google, the “Report Indexing Issue” button is meant as a last resort. Before taking this step, site owners should resolve any indexing issues by consulting Google Search Console’s support documentation and community forums.

How does it work? After clicking the “Report Indexing Issue” button, site owners will see a form asking for –

  • their name, and
  • URL.

Afterwards, they have to describe the issue by choosing one of two options: My website or web page(s) are –

  • are not indexed in Google Search
  • are indexed but not ranking properly in search results

Once a site owner submits the form, Google will follow up with several troubleshooting steps related to the indexing issue the user is experiencing.
